Visiting the 'Tom Wood - A 50 Year Retrospective Exhibition'
/"Tom Wood - A 50 Year Retrospective"
Resulting from the Summer Vacation, taken by the members of Moygownagh's Rambling House Group, the Ramblers were free to roam around to cultural events that were of an interest to them personally.
Today: I found my little niche event; a visit to the Cultural and Civic Centre, Crossmolina to view the photographic exhibition, "Tom Wood - A 50 Year Retrospective" became my destination.
My adventure into the unknown, was surprisingly, made more interesting, by having Kieran, a former work colleague and friend, as my guide; who back then had spent his days conscientiously transcribing old hand-written Manuscripts, while I spent mine, digitally archiving National School Statutory Records, with my trusty Sony DSC-HX50 Camera and an ancient Mack-Book, that had seen better days, with whom I never really bonded.
Recreational photography is one of my hobbies, but to enjoy and appreciate this body of work, one does not need to be a photographer. The exhibition is presented in many formats such as Landscape, Portraiture and Panorama. The photos include, people, animals, still life and abstract work. The inspiration behind his work arises from Cities and areas of and around Liverpool: Merseyside, Margate, Brighton, South Downs, and Kilburn in the United Kingdom. Tom Wood eventually arrived back in his hometown, to capture and showcase the beauty of Crossmolina, Ballycastle and their surrounding areas together with the people of his native Co. Mayo.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this exhibition. I also appreciated the help and courtesy of my knowledgeable curator.
Thank you Kieran.
